Helen M. Stevens, S.W.A.

The Embroideries

Original or bespoke (commissioned) artwork

All of Helen's pieces are created with an amazing attention to detail and design.  Worked in natural fibres, such as pure silk and mercerised cottons, with the addition, on occasion, of other fine materials, such as gold and silver thread, gems and pearls.  Her signature techniques for contemporary subjects compliment her unique skill in early Anglo Saxon "opus Anglicanum", the two contrasting styles distinct and yet sometimes merging to form a single fantasy of mystery, magic and material realism.

Pictures vary in size from miniatures to large, almost mural, decorators' pieces.  Shown (left) is a natural history subject of approx. 8" x 8".  The detail achieved in the embroidery is breathtaking and becomes all the more evident the more closely it is seen ...

Commissions for public and other spaces have been an important part of Helen's portfolio.
